MU Parlour @ Lorong Mambong, Holland Village

Holland Village is eminent for its vast-selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs suited for various occasions. However, those on level 2 of the shops are less prominent it seems, and most of us are usually lazy to climb up the stairways to check out the ‘unknown’ unless recommended.

MU Parlour is one of such, well-hidden on the 2nd level at Lorong Mambong, above Thai Express. Though it was name-dropped by a few friends over the past year, I visited it only recently.

MU Parlour
16A Lorong Mambong, Holland Village

Opening Hours:
Sunday - Thursday: 1100am - 2300pm
Friday and Saturday: 1100am - 0200am

Number:
64669336

Facebook:

Fell in love with the interior of the cafe as soon as we stepped in – chic and white walls complemented by several modern, statement art pieces and a unique blend of whimsical furniture pieces. It was rather fun and we certainly took a long time trying to decide on our seats since there were numerous styles of mismatched tables & chairs available at the time we visited and everything look so pretty!

(hey there, doggie!)

Apparently pets are allowed, so pet owners can bring their dogs, cats, (or bunnies?) to chill out at the cafe? ;)

Serving gourmet burgers is the niche of the cafe and the one we had certainly lived up to its reputation! The patty was tender and juicy, and each set comes with a good serving of fries.
The lemon meringue tart was smooth (slightly too sourish for some of us) with a very buttery-tasting crust.
The poached eggs from the Mu breakfast were decent, though I would prefer more runny yolks. All burgers and breakfast sets includes garlic fries and they were lip-smacking! Very flavoursome with generous serving of real garlic bits.

Coffees on the other hand, were not very strong. To some, they may be run-of-the-mill.
Friend commented though, that the latte is good for a late afternoon drink since it doesn't seem to be as caffeine loaded as the coffees elsewhere. Also, might be suitable for coffee-beginners.

Waffles Set $15
With spicy pork & veal sausages, sunny-side up, grilled tomatoes, and salad

Latte $4.50

Lemon Meringue Tart $8
Lemon curd made with fresh lemons topped with a layer of classic Italian meringue

MU breakfast $16
Comes with poached eggs, spicy pork & veal sausages, streaky bacon, brioche, greens and garlic fries

No. 11 Burger $15
Beef patty, streaky bacon, avocado, cheese and charcoal burger bun
All the burgers come with crisp iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, fresh onions and side of garlic fries!

If you wish to make it a meal, there is a choice of milkshake with additional $5 and coffee + daily dessert for additional $9.

Macchiato $5

The service is quite slow, hence don’t go with a hungry stomach. However I can’t deny that sometimes I appreciate “slow” services since that means nobody would rush me to make my orders or clear my plates asking me to leave :)

Food may be pretty mediocre, but the quaint and charming interior of the place makes up for it more enough. A perfect cafe for spending a quiet afternoon, watching the world go by.

The Bank Bar & Bistro @ One Shenton

Met up with some of the fdgm people for a meal as well as to surprise WL at her new work place! :)
We checked out The Bank Bar + Bistro nearby some of our offices, at One Shenton.

 The Bank Bar + Bistro

#01-01, One Shenton, 1 Shenton Way

 Hours Daily:
11:00 - 00:00

 Tel:

Website
http://www.thebankbar.com

The Bank Bar + Bistro has an all-day dining and bar concept with premium quality western cuisine and wine for business entertainment. The spacious, lofty and chic ambience works well for after-work unwinding or weekend brunches.

With a beautifully designed, seamless space that houses the bar and dining areas, the sophisticated all-in-one drinking and dining venue is ideal for corporate events besides catering to the different drinking and dining crowd.

Sports aficionados can also gather at this hot spot to catch major sports leagues, and bond over great food and beers/wines.
As stated above, The Bank Bar opens til midnight on both weekdays and weekends, so patrons don't have to worry about searching for another place to hang out after dinner hours.

Service was kind of slow and the waitress had this annoyed look on her face throughout. Overworked?
Seems like the disappointing service affected my friend a lil.
(He sure needs that beer huh.)

As if making up for the (lack of) service though, the food served was very palatable and one will be spoiled for choices with the extensive menu.

The seafood aglio olio I had was extremely favourful, with seafood all so fresh and succulent. The squid especially, was cooked just nice and juicy. We also order barbecued baby ribs that were full of meat and so tender to the point it almost fell off the rib as soon as we touched it. The BBQ sauce was perfect with a smokey and tangy taste. Serving of the pizza was huge and thus very good for sharing.

Here are some pictures of the awesome food we had:

Seafood Aglio Olio $24.50
Comes with succulent prawns, fresh squid, fresh black mussels, garlic, chilli flakes, olive oil and parsley.

Braised Lamb Shank $33.00
with roasted potatoes, asparagus, vine tomato and rosemary sauce

With #laopengyou lol :D

Barbeque Baby Back Ribs $26.00
with mesclun salad and potato wedges

Fungi $23.50
Pizza topped with a generous blend of jalapeno, white button mushroom, mozzarella, onions, capsicum, dry thyme and creamy white sauce

The bunch of us before hopping over to WL's place!

Boathouse Fullerton @ The Waterboat House

Finally visited Boathouse @ Fullerton Water Boat House with Y!
After several misses, we held firm to our meetup this time round, as well as our seats at Boathouse thanks to priority reservations, yay ;)

*credit http://www.findyourwayinsg.com/

Boathouse is a Modern European cuisine restaurant serving fares with only the freshest seasonal ingredients.

Designed to be a boat that is permanently docked along Fullerton Road, the Boathouse Fullerton looks remarkable inside-out.

The interior is a reminiscent of the old Singapore and the secret history of the 1919 waterboat house.
Various historical items are displayed on tables and the walls as a connection to the history of the building and location.
Boasting of beautiful timber and soothing white walls, the decor gives off a warm, sophiscated ambience. Not only that, the beautiful French windows exquisitely frame breathtaking views of the Singapore waterfront <3

Saumon Tarte $22
Home-cured salmon, garlic aioli, chive infused creme fraiche, avruga caviar

This is a great appetizer!
The home-cured salmon was superb. I enjoyed it both on its own and with the creme fraiche (light sour cream).

Vichyssoise $18
Warm potato & braised leek soup, salmon tartare, crispy bacon shavings

Y had soup for appetizer which I thought was fine, but nothing amazing, upon trying a few spoonfuls.

Bar D'Atlantique $32
Pan seared Atlantique sea bass, fricassee of seafood, cauliflower puree & essence of forest mushroom

Though the sea bass was very fresh, I didn't find it extremely memorable. The skin wasn't crispy enough for my liking and fish slightly bland, hence I didn't touch much.
The foamy essence of mushroom was interesting nevertheless, and the rest of the seafood that came with the dish were very fresh and sweet.

Canard $35
Duck breast pan-seared to perfection, apple & celeriac puree, roasted micro-carrots and juniper berries

My favourite! The duck breast is so tender and juicy, very much to my surprise. While being medium rare, the skin was roasted to perfection, bringing out the flavour of the fats skin. And yay, this skin has enough crisp to it. So much better than the sea bass!

Chocolat $15
Chocolate mountain, passion fruit rock and seasonal berries

Splendid dessert I would say! The chocolate mousse is rather thick in texture, making it almost like ice-cream (but less jerlat). It was balanced perfectly with sweet-sourish passion fruit mash at the side, making this dessert extremely delicious and refreshing.

On top of that (pun intended), there was pop rocks sprinkled amongst the berries toppings! If you remember it, it's the crackling/fizzing candy bits that pops, literally, in your mouth like fireworks :p
This came as a surprise as we had initially thought it was just normal nuts toppings.
Got us reminiscing on our childhood days after which <3 <3 <3 Very fun dessert!

Cassis
Cassis parfait, green tea biscotti, Dijon patisserie, basil and berry salad

Another dessert that makes us feel more refreshed and "healthy" with the various flavours of berries and green tea biscotti.
This was pretty delightful and Y finished it to the very last bit.

Have you caught on the recent café-hopping bug? Or living the high life at the prime of your youth but find that dining out and other enjoyments are getting more and more expensive? :( We all have to agree that Singapore can be quite an expensive city to live in, especially dining at a decent restaurant which can easily cost $40-$60 per pax.

***

The Extra Virgin Pizza outlet has a warm and casual ambience and the new branch at the United Square is spacious enough for long tables - great for large groups gatherings!
We were told that the pizzas are the mains available for Buy-One-Get-One-Free.
So it was PURE PIZZA night!

All pizzas are hand-made and baked to order at Extra Virgin Pizza. And as the name suggests, Extra Virgin Pizza uses quality and pure extra virgin olive oil, and only globally sourced premium ingredients such as Italian double-zero flour, california organic Saporito tomatoes and premium imported cheeses and toppings.

With more than 10 unique flavours for pizzas, we spent quite a bit of time making our choices!
There were two chef recommendation/favourites ordered - Spotted Pig and Pistachio Pesto.

Spotted Pig Pizza $26
with tomato, mozzarella, pepperoni, pork sausage, applewood smoked bacon, parmigiano reggiano

Pistachio Pesto $24
with pistachio pesto, mozzarella, baby arugula, lemon vinaigrette, pecorino, provolone

While the two recommendations above were delightful, my personal favourites are actually Mushroom Bianco and Seafood Pizza!

Mushroom Bianco $22
with mozzarella, roasted mushrooms and onions, fontina, rosemary, pecorino, truffle oil

This was sooo good even though it's basically just cheese and mushrooms! (okay, with a drizzle of truffle oil)
There wasn't any pizza sauce used, which allows the natural flavour of the mushrooms to ooze out as you bite into the pizza.
Do try this if you're a mushroom lover like me! :D

Seafood $26
with bechamel, prawns, clams, squid, cherry tomatoes, chili flakes, parmigiano reggiano, pecorino, lemon juice, shaved garlic

This came as a surprise favourite for myself as I don't usually take spiciness well. The seafood pizza came with some chili flakes which was considered mild and adds on to the flavour perfectly.
Ingredients used were very fresh. I like especially the squid which was Q and springy!

Yummy homemade sodas to wash the palate. The raspberry mint is a must-try!

Here's a sample of The Entertainer Singapore and Travel vouchers in hardcopies.
Imagine having to lug the heavy books around just in case you pass by any places to use the vouchers *sweats*

The app is SO MUCH MORE convenient with the exact same offers!
Besides, with the app, you can view your offers by location – all your offers load in proximity to you or you can view the Entertainer map which features individual pins for every available Entertainer offer!

Also, for additional Members Offers (additional buy one get one free brunches, activities, massages and more), you just have to load directly onto your phone, instead of having to print from the website!

As mentioned earlier, the app not only provides dining deals, it also features a Hotel Supplement which is available for redemption on the App. Ideal for staycations or exotic breaks, the Supplement includes 4 and 5* hotels in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia and the Indian Ocean.

On top on these, it also contains other local entertainment and activities eg:
