Jimmy Monkey Cafe @ One North

Visited Jimmy Money Cafe when I still had membership for NTU Alumni Club @ One North.
The cafe is located right beside the club house :)

#ootd

Jimmy Monkey Cafe is well-hidden at a corner of One North Residences.

Jimmy Monkey Cafe & Bar is an Australian-style cafe with a fully integrated bar and lounge.
Interior of the cafe is very dimly-lited, hence pardon the noisy photos!

Here's some better quality photos I googled (teehee):

They served breakfast menu from 8:30am - 6pm Monday to Friday
So I had Jimmy Monkey Cooked Breakfast - 2 eggs of any style (no poached), toast, bonne maman apricot/raspberry, butter and rocket salad $14

You can choose to add on sides like streaky bacon, chorizo sausage, creamy sage mushrooms, or grilled tomatoes for $3-4 each.

Crispy chicken thigh with roasted roma tomatoes, sauteed mushroom, and a mesclun salad $22
This is yummy! I love how the sauteed mushroom is kind of creamy, unlike others I've tried, which is quite a unique change.

Overall, the food was very normal, hence we find it rather overpriced.
Would chill elsewhere instead.

Backstage Café @ Kallang Way

Here’s a super back-dated entry on my birthday afternoon.
It was also my first time bring my new baby out!

So pardon if the photos are abit awkward :|

The day was spent doing nothing, plucking white hairs, having brunch and chillax for the rest of the day at a new café in Singapore – Backstage Café.

Quite glad for the explosion of new cafes in the local scene recently. No longer are they situated in the usual areas like Tiong Bahru, Holland Village, Tanjong Pagar, we can spot new cafes popping up in our HDB heartlands and even industrial parks. Backstage café is one of those, well-hidden in the industrial estate.

When M drove past the building which supposedly houses the café and asked me if I see the café, I said confidently “Nope, wrong building.”

Rofl.
Thankfully he is not a believer of my directional opinions and he U-turn back to park.

See? You can’t blame me for not noticing the café from afar right.
It’s well-hidden behind the tinted glasses.
We parked at a small parking lane opposite the building. Do note that it is coupon parking!

The high ceilings and spacious seats gave us a feeling of carefree-ness and freedom, away from the usual mad crowds in town!

My birth date coincidentally!

Latte $4
I'm not a coffee expert, but the coffee is aromatic and robust, good enough for me.

Anyway, the lovely latte art is enough to make anybody's day I guess ;)

Soup of the day
Not into veg soups :X But M quite like it, portion is enough without making you too full for the mains.

Eggs Benedict $13
Two poached eggs on toasted brioche, served with bacon and honey baked ham & home made hollandaise sauce.

The first thing I noticed about this egg ben is the black sauce! o.O Was asking M immediately, "DID I ORDER THE WRONGLY???"
We checked our orders, correct.
Took a look at the waiter in hope that he will enlighten us, but, nope - everything seemed fine.

Then dipped my fork a little into the black sauce and tried it, hmmm sweet soy sauce!
I guess they're trying to infuse Asian/Singaporean style of having half boiled eggs with soy sauce into the egg benedict?
For that, I have to raise both hands in joy! Cos it tastes extremely great! :D

The sweetness of the soy sauce is a perfect complement to the saltiness of the bacon and toast.
Besides, I'm quite crazily addicted to runny eggs doused in soy sauce - hence when the perfectly poached eggs come into place, the taste is simply divine.

One more pic, just because.

Carbonara $11
Creamy, comforting pasta and packed with smoked bacon – Backstage café’s carbonara hit the right notes!

The carbonara is recommended by M. The pasta is al dente!

Chocolate hazelnut cake $5.50

M sneakily ordered a slice of the hazelnut cake without me noticing a single bit (must have been too busy trying out my camera :X)
So there, my first birthday cake (of the day), lol.

I wish for more yummy food!
*hohoho*

D' Good Cafe

Another review of a cafe that is a short distance from home.

OOTD.

d' Good Cafe

The first thing that came to our minds when we saw the signage was, it better be what the name represents! lol.

"We want to offer customers everything good – from a good cup of coffee to good service, food and ambience. If customers are dissatisfied with their coffee, they could request for a change and we would gladly brew a new cup."

Well, for coffee, food and casual cafe ambience, they did it. Though we are not so sure about the service/attitude.

As usual, H took a long time deciding what to have, especially when she was having a sore throat that day.
Hence, I took my time exploring the cafe, studying the decor and of cos, taking some photos.
The service gave slight glares glances not once, but thrice - which made me thought "Is photography not allowed?"
Then I thought, "Are we blocking anyone or anything??"
Though, at that timing, there was not a single soul (customers I mean) in sight.
No idea why we were getting side glances, for pondering too long over their extensive menu?

Finally, H decided.
I ordered egg ben as usual, and a latte and for H, Aglio Olio, oh, without chilli since her throat was bad.
The service staff actually gave a puzzled FROWN and repeated "huh, aglio olio without chili?!"
H replied, "yup, no chili please."
The service staff half-rolled her eyes or did her whatever side glance stunt again while keying in the orders. What?!

Doesn't Aglio Olio simply means spaghetti with garlic and olive oil? Why is it so shocking to her that H wanted it without any chili flakes??
Even if a customer requested for something ridiculous (though I strongly think that Aglio Olio without chili anywhere near ridiculous, please), you don't show a face to the customer. At least tell them tactfully like "This dish without chili/sauce/garlic might be taste as good as the original, would you still like it done that way? :)"

Or pretend to ask a non-existence (nasty) chef behind the door/counter/shelves for the order and then inform the customer that it can't be served that way. Then of cos, suggest other dishes or ask if the customer wants to change his/her orders if you can't think of anything logically/intelligent.

The service attitude encountered made us quite turned-off, cos the cafe appeared to be such a warm, pleasant and homely place.
Wasn't in the mood, so not many photos of the place while waiting for our orders.
But, we really like these swings at the side which is a very charming alternative of bay windows concept.

Egg Benedict $13.50

The poached eggs with hollandaise sauce were average, nothing amazing.
One of the eggs were overcooked, so no runny yolk :(

The Aglio Olio was fine, albeit dry.
I prefer the versions that are more "oily" (knowing it is olive oil :p), with more garlic fragrance usually.
Shrimps were moist and firm, generously peppered.

Went visiting the alfresco area on level 3 after dinner.
You can choose to go up via this cool, futuristic-looking elevator..

Or the old school stairway by the windows.
(on the extreme right)

The outdoor dining level gave us a surprise! The whole area looks really romantic (I love it even more than the swing seats now haha!) with hanging flowers and lights blended, like real-life bokeh <3
