Black Paint Singapore @ Isetan, B2 Westgate Mall

Despite all the current raves and hype over Korean skincare, I remain quite a staunch believer and user of Japanese products.
When I heard about Black Paint coming to Singapore in December last year (from MollyMia), I was so curious and had been looking forward to try out the brand - especially the unique Black Paint Soap!
Finally managed to get my hands on 3 of the products in the 4-step pore care range :D

The story of Black Paint began with a mother's love, and the search for inner and outer health for her daughter. It took much scientific study, but in the end her quest led to restored health for her child ... and a line of organic skincare that enhances the body's own renewal and self-protection processes instead of fighting them.

When Miyuki Maeda, the founder of Black Paint's daughter was diagnosed with a serious, "incurable" kidney disease, her outlook on life was changed forever. Her inner fighter was awakened and she realized that the power for healing was in her hands.
She would not stop believing there was an answer, nor stop working until she found it, no matter how long it took or where she had to look. Miyuki studied modern physiology and bacteriology as well as traditional natural healing systems around the world.
When she learned about beneficial bacteria, she saw the light. Bacteria that live symbiotically in our bodies are essential to our physical function, from digesting nutrients to protecting against disease. She realized that instead of killing those bacteria, we should nourish them so they can do their job.

The dark time of Miyuki's life has now ended, thanks to her determination to never give up the fight for her family's well-being. After the success of her "personal health study," she knew she had to share the benefits of her hard-won wisdom with the world. Black Paint is the result.

Black Paint

Black Paint®, an organic skincare brand established in Kyoto 15 years ago by Myyuki Co.Ltd. Since ancient times, plant oil treatments have been taught to be a secret to beautiful skin. Based on this concept, Black Paint® skincare products are made from natural, organic materials which are blended from more than 100 types of plant oils, more than 50 types of essential oils, Kishu Bichotan Charcoal that suitable for various skin and body parts. Black Paint® soaps were sold more than one million in Japan in year 2012.

Black Paint® soup has won the Grand Gold Medal of Monde Selection Award Winner (a globally-renowned award run by International Institute for Quality Selections, Belgium, that evaluate quality of each product and grant them quality label) for consecutively 5 years since 2009 under the category of Cosmetics & Toiletries in Japan.

The concept of BLACK PAINT®
Miyuki Maeda searched the world over for the natural materials that would best support the skin's self-healing and protection processes.

• Natural Ingredients
Today we use more than 100 kinds of plant-derived oils, essential minerals and other natural ingredients such as silk, honey and brown sugar, together with various plant oils and essential oils from all over the world. Our products' fragrance comes from steam-distilled essential oils, not synthetic perfumes. The usage of
plant oils and organic ingredients has been approved by organic certification bodies in Germany and France.

• Pore- care
An average adult has around 20 millions of pores on his or her face. Maintaining clean, healthy skin pores is important for maintaining healthy (and healthy looking) skin. Dirt and oil on pores may cause those pores get clogged and encourage the growth of bacteria which would cause inflammation and irritation. No matter how strong your cleanser facial wash is, it is almost impossible to pull out all the waste inside the skin's pores. But there is a better way discovered a long time ago by women who visited hot springs.
When the alkaline water of the hot springs touched their skin, which is acidic, it triggered the skin to restore its normal balance by releasing more acid. This acid pushed out all the waste from within, leaving pores completely clean. That's why Black Paint has a slightly alkaline pH level.
Most face cleanser use a solvent that removes makeup by melting its oils. Unfortunately, they also remove skin’s natural oil and wash away the good with the bad. Black Paint® soap removes only the makeup, with a gentle foaming film of vegetable oil that lets it slip easily off the skin's surface.

• Supports Skin Microbiota
Human Microbiota is the microscopic organisms living in human body. The human skin is usually slightly acidic, mostly due to the effect of sebum secretion by skin glands which contain lactic acid. Like our intestine, lactic acid bacteria act as a barrier to prevent microbes (other bacteria) from entering our body.
Vital to skin health, these bacteria digest skin oil, dead cells and minerals from perspiration, turning them into a natural moisturizing cream that acts as a barrier between the inner skin and the outer environment. With essential moisture locked in and dirt out, skin stays soft, fresh and radiant. Using only natural ingredients without any preservatives, Black Paint® helps maintain the functionality of the bacteria in our skin
which balance the skin’s immune system.

• No Synthetic Preservatives
The Black Paint® skincare series is made solely of natural ingredients; does not use any synthetic preservatives, disinfectants, fragrances, colorings, anti-oxidants, or ultraviolet absorbers.
We refuse to use them because many are already proven to cause cancer and other illnesses as well as damage the eco-system. What’s more, they can kill the beneficial bacteria that help skin maintain its natural
beauty. Through Black Paint® soap, we hope to live in a globally safe environment despite
our hectic lifestyle.

• Gently Manufactured
We have worked long and hard to develop manufacturing processes that don't compromise the integrity of our products. For example, Black Paint soap is cold pressed -- almost unheard-of these days. Cold processing allows glycerin, a plant-derived emollient, to remain in the soap instead of being boiled away. Cleansing naturally, it leaves skin soft, radiant and healthy.
We do not use emulsifiers to keep the oil and water elements of a formula mixed together. We believe you would rather shake the bottle before each use than have synthetic chemicals touch your skin.

Now, coming to the 2 products I really love after testing.

Black Paint® Face Soap – S$49.90, 120g

It looks literally like a cement brick.
Or a foot pumice stone, rofl.

BUT, definitely, it is nothing like pumice stone la.
What it feels like on the skin, is so smooth and buttery! :))

How to use:
1) Immerse the soap into 40 degree celcius water for a minimum of 40 seconds. The soap is ready if the surface of the soap melts into a “sesame dessert paste”

2) Apply directly onto skin, even over makeup because the soap can double as a
makeup remover.

3) Try to use all the 6 surfaces of “sesame dessert paste” of the soap and not just 1 side. This act will consume all the melted soap surfaces which allows the soap to dry during idling and preserve the form of the soap, prolonging its usability.

4) Massage face gently for at least 5 minutes. This allows the charcoal particles in the
soap water sip into the pores and adhere themselves to white heads and oil deposits for more effective cleansing.

5) Rinse with warm water with gentle massage. Avoid harsh motion because such action will cut off partially exposed comedones.

6) Leave the BLACK PAINT® soap on an open dish in an airy place to dry naturally. This will help to prolong the usage of the soap.

Actually, I was too lazy and didn't immerse the soap in 40 deg cel water :p
All I did was to wet the surface of the soap and let it "melt" for a while before using it. Works pretty fine too!

The fact that it looks like a slab of butter gave me the inspiration to use a "butter tray" to store the Black Paint Soap :)
To be more environmentally-friendly, you can simply use a container lid to place the soap in the bathroom.
I happened to have a Ferrero Rocher container which has the PERFECT sized lid for containing the soap.

It's a perfect size!!

You can use the lid for placing the soap to dry.
If you're not intending to use it every single day, you may simply cover it with the box to prevent dust from getting to it :)
